We interrupt the bon bon eating for this short message

Okay, only my darling husband's comments could spur me on to type my first blog entry. The comment section just wasn't going to do it justice this time. Since my day was filled with kids I have a few highlights to share with you.
1) Some of you may think a shower is just a common ordinary task but I happen to look forward to the quiet and the soft noise of water falling (as close to a spa as I'm gonna get right now). Anyway, it was during this lovely time of day when my oldest pops in to inform me that she cannot get the tv to work so they cannot watch their show. Now, the tv was working so this is a little odd but I try to troubleshoot and send her on her way. But she returns announcing that she definitely cannot make it work. I sadly admit that I'm out of ideas and she will have to wait til I'm done for me to fix it. To this she replies, "Oh, man, I was looking forward to watching the show." I really wanted to respond, "I was looking forward to a nice, quiet shower," but thought better of it.
2) Every part of my wardrobe has been spit up on today...don't ask for all the info just know that I speak truth.
3) Gib argued with the show which we finally were able to watch. They said caterpillars ate milkweed and he scoffed this obvious error, "Ha ha, caterpillars eat yeaves!"
4) For dinner, Mya asked if they could raise their hands when they wanted to ask me something. I said sure. So then she proceeded to raise her hand many, many, many times to tell me fun bits of information.
Okay, that's all I have for now but they're not in bed yet so there might be more. Oh wait, Mya told me that I was a pig. I kindly told her that it's not nice to tell people they are pigs until she said that I was Wilbur (from Charlotte's Web) and I concluded that this was a compliment. I still don't think she should call people pigs but we'll deal with that later.

Access Denied

Bummer. Here I sit protecting our friendly skies on 24-hour alert (also known as "when daddy has to sleep at work"), and of course (being this computer is gov't property) I cannot watch my Cubs game. This is the screen I get. Ang is probably popping bon-bons wearing her pink furry slippers while the children quietly clean up the house & organize their toys alphabetically. NOT! ;) I should probably avoid the subject of my afternoon nap altogether for fear of retribution when I return home! And I probably shouldn't be too overly sad that I ONLY caught the last 14 minutes of the Motocross De Nations race on cable TV. Yes, here I am bombarded by constant reminders that this is a sacrifice I've been called to make. Sleep safe in your beds, America!

And by the way, her eyes look a bit darker than any of our previous babies. Hmmmm... We'll just have to see.

Full Afterburner Ang

Ang had an awesome time at the squadron open house (aka. Gold Carpet Day) today... she got a high-speed, full-afterburner, zero-to-a-hundred, 35,000 pounds of thrust, F-15C Eagle thrill-ride on the runway, followed by a max-aero-brake, or "wheelie" as Gib calls it (useful in slowing down to speeds that won't turn the brake pads into molton hot magma). Her friendly pilot was Andy and I was out on foot snapping pictures. It was nice to kick back & "enjoy" being at work today!

Mysterious disappearing post

Wow, what an interesting game. Some serious bad "goat" vibes jinxing the Cubs tonight... 6 gross erros!?!? DLee making an error?!? Winning run scored by lugging pinch-running pitcher?!?!? We're up!...let's trade another good player now.

Fall is here

We're officially in fall (my favorite season), based on the golden colors appearing, and also the nighttime temps in the high 30s! Aaah! But afternoons and evenings this week are looking beautiful so far... almost cloudless skies tonight. Here's a look at the kids having a good time in the backyard after dinner.

And here's Sadie... 44 days old (6.285714285 weeks old, for those keeping close track).

GeoCaching #3

Went geocaching again. That's 8 we've found so far! Today was more fun for the kids. We went to Crevasse Moraine (local forest preserve) to hike their kid-friendly trails. Why would anyone need a camera? We're there to conquer GPS treasure hunting! Only, it turned out to be the most gorgeous early-fall evening! Rats. The fall colors were just reaching bright gold and orange! Wow. The kids had a great time digging through the ammo cans rich with plastic trinkets. This offset the slight trauma of them tripping over every fallen tree trunk and thorn bush! We had to get going for dinner, so we still have 3 more in that park to go discover.

I think we're going to register & plant our own cache next. Laney, however, mentioned she'd like to do less trading and more outright "collecting" of the plastic treasures. Hording junk is what I call it, and it will not be tolerated! Here's Gib holding the tiny "Piggy" geocache yesterday... it's just big enough to hold the sign-in log rolled up inside!

Oh, here's the sports summary for today: Cubs lost; Roddick lost. Questions?

GeoCaching #2

Went geocaching again. Found 3 for 3! Pretty easy finds, though... right in "downtown" Palmer. Was a bit chillier than expected, and started to sprizzle (sprinkle/drizzle). Here's a pic of Palmer airport, which is near "Cache Cow", the last cache we uncovered in town. We may go explore more ambitious hiking trail caches tomorrow or next weekend--we were a bit tired today after a squadron farewell party last night. The kids enjoyed not going to sleep til nearly 11pm! This messed them up significantly today. Oh, the joy, the love.

Tennis anyone? Great matches today on the men's side. Didn't catch the women's final. Men's final is lunchtime Sunday--I'm pulling for Roddick, but the kids are rooting for Federer, even though they originally hoped Nikolay Davydenko would go all the way... I'm not kidding, these little kids are telling me who's playing who in today's matches and I'm shocked to find out they're correct! And Gib even says his name correctly. Have to send a shout out to Ang for some top quality homeschooling there!

A blogging with a flogging

Oh my goodness, have you got to see the Cubs Blog that I found... my new best friend when I need to vent frustration after watching yet another sad display of Cubs Baseball 2006. Click on the righthand toolbar Link called "CUBS BLOG." I especially appreciate/identify with all scathing remarks about Ronny C's predictable lack of major league defensive maturity. It's probably mean of me to feed this fire, but I feel a bit better about myself once I'm done reading, and hey that's really what matters here right? :) Now go... read... laugh... enjoy... vent.

GeoCaching for the first time

We successfully discovered hidden treasure (3 out of 4 attempts!). With a GPS and the internet, you and your kids can hunt for hidden treasure, inventory the fun contents of the stash, record your visit in the logbook, and trade out contents with your own trinkets on hand. There are so many more aspects, like Travel Bugs that are trinkets that jump from cache to cache, where you can view their progress online, as they randomly circle the county, or the continent! We're hooked. Here we are after finding our very first GeoCache in Hatcher Pass! Also, here's yet another sunset. And also, Gib smooching Sadie.

All Four

It dawned on me (that means Ang mentioned it) that I hadn't taken a picture of ALL FOUR of the kids together. So here it is... That's (L to R) Mya, Gibson, Sadie, and Laney. I snapped about 20 shots, and this was our favorite. If you'd like an even higher rez picture, I can email it to you. Hopefully you won't feel shorted if you see this again in, say, our Christmas card! :)
