I must tell you. No one knows about this top secret substitute method, but I'm sure it will sweep the nation. As you may know, I'm a coffee junkie (snob)... and I prefer cream & sugar (half & half, and raw sugar, if you want me to be snobbishly specific). Well... I'm getting older and I ain't getting skinnier. So I figured, since I consume half & half every single day with my aluminum travel mug-o-coffee, I should probably start by cutting down on that avenue of fat intake. Switch to whole milk. I did, and it's, well, ok. I've done 2% and skim in the past... not an option. I like strong coffee, and the cream cuts the bitter edge. Weak milk just adds water. Blah.
So this whole milk is "ok" and while I'm trying enjoying the switch, I discover that the coffee I mix up for Ang tastes a lot more like it's got half & half in it... thing is: Ang is drinking Lactaid whole milk now, which makes her tummy very happy. Weird. So after 2 weeks of this, I put it in my strong coffee instead of the whole milk. No way! Are you for real? This stuff is thicker than whole milk (like half & half), tastes great, and... get this... is a touch sweet, so you don't have to add as much sugar either. Sweet you ask? I don't know why, but there is no sugar in there, just the milk and the Lactaid enzyme. Must make it sweet, I guess. So now Ang complains about how quickly HER milk disappears since I've switched to the lighter side.
The nutrition labels are below (Lactaid in blue, Half & Half in black). Here's the facts (I did the math on Excel): 2 Tablespoons of Half & Half has a daily recommended amount of 5% Total Fat and 10% Saturated Fat. Lactaid Whole has 1.5% Total Fat and 3.1% Saturated Fat... less than a third of the fat of Half & Half!! A third of it!
I challenge you to go try it out... you'll like it!!
