Farm Bling

For us who love the idea that one tool can do many different jobs... I busted out laughing at the thought of "upgrading" my Sears Craftsman riding mower in this capacity! But, I may have to give it a slight bit of serious consideration as I gaze out the window at my little shovel and the two large piles totaling in 50 metric tons of Las Vegas-harvested gravel. Kinda like emptying a swimming pool with a coffee mug, one scoop at a time.

Chilly, Chilly Willy the Penguin

It's hitting 50 deg F at night... kinda reminds me of the brisk nights in Sequoia Nat'l Park back in June! *sigh* When do we get to go back!?!? Maybe next time I'll post pictures of the mysterious creature known as a bear-ver... half bear, half beaver. I have proof.

Dedicated to Christy Oakland (because I remembered her name)

I just want to share with you a little about my life right now. It has come to my attention that I may be a little sleep deprived. Not sleep deprived like when you have a newborn and you forget that showers exist and your hair looks really scary all the time (and you don't even care!) but "functioning" sleep deprived.
Here's my story. I took the kids to their first choir practice at church. I had dropped Laney off and was visiting Mya's class. We went to leave the room and the teacher wanted to make sure that Gib was really mine because he was walking out of the room with me and she had noticed the white sticker on the back of his shirt with his name and security number. I looked down and realized he was wearing the same shirt from church the night before, which he had slept in and then worn all day. This is not a huge surprise because Gib would wear the same bubba shirt for a week if I would let him. Here's the kicker though -- I hadn't noticed that sticker ALL DAY! If you would have asked me if he had one on him I would have said no, honest truth.

Okay, here's what happened after we came home. Laney asked for our zip code. I seriously couldn't tell her what it was. And I guess the really sad part is, after 20 seconds of not being able to think of it, I walked over to my pile of mail and read it to her and was fine with that.

And finally, I was reading my Parents magazine and there was this awful article I was reading excerpts from to Scott, about how it's actually healthy for wives to have little crushes on other men. I could not believe it but told him at least it was a free subscription so I hadn't paid them for the magazine. He asked how it was free and I said, "She had a gift subscription to give away and gave it to me." Then I just looked at him with a pained expression because I could not get my brain around what her name was...that nice friend who had given me this magazine (with this terrible article in it :) ). Scott said at least I had narrowed it down to half the human race because I remembered it was a she. After 30 seconds (I am so not kidding) I blurted out "Christy Oakland!" To which he responded, "Wow, she's not just like a person you barely know, she really is a friend of yours." Which I took to mean, you really do have no brain power at this time.
If you want to know any other details I also forgot to fill in the amount on the check I was writing (and didn't notice) and I wore my little white socks I was wearing around the house WITH my sandals. Fortunately I did see this when I was getting out of the car at church and took them off.
Thank you for listening to my story and please say a little prayer that our two youngest will stop tag teaming me at night so I might get more than 2 hours of uninterrupted sleep. And please, grammar and spelling "comment" leavers - be kind, be kind.

If you don't have anything nice to say...

We went to our friends house for Labor Day (the Porters) and had a great time. But when we pulled up to the house Mya said, "that's a tiny garage." I looked on this as a great time to talk to her about finding positive things to say, for instance, "What beautiful roses," or "Wow, what is this green stuff in the front of the house? Oh, grass! It's lovely." I was taking in this teachable moment and thinking of all the embarrassment that had been saved by her saying things like this before we went in the house when she turned to me (very excitedly) and had something else to say. Here it is, the product of my excellent tutelage, I waited expectantly as she said, "Mom, do you see the NICE tiny garage?"
